Located
in the far west of Germany and only 2 miles from the Dutch
border, Weeze Airport has experienced a remarkable growth
in passenger traffic over the last few years since its
opening in 2003. Until 1999, the airport was a British
military base: RAF Laarbruch. In 2001 a consortium purchased
the site for use as a commercial airport and, after considerable
investment in infrastructure including a new passenger
terminal, the first regular services commenced in 2003.
In the past the airport has been known as Niederrhein
Airport but today it is usually referred to as Weeze Airport
although Ryannair, who provide the majority of the airport's
air traffic, refer to it as Dusseldorf - Weeze.
Weeze Airport provides a full range of up-to-date facilities
in it's main passenger terminal which is laid out on two
floors. The Check-In, Departures and Arrivals Halls are
on the ground-floor and the first floor houses the restaurant,
bistro, shops and travel agencies as well as other useful
facilities including cash-machines and a viewing terrace.
The Hertz desk at Weeze Airport is located on the ground-floor
of the passenger terminal. It is roughly opposite the
exit from the Arrivals Area in the main entrance hall
and is open 7 days-a-week from 8am to midnight. A wide
range of vehicles are available from the Hertz Weeze fleet
with models to suit all sizes of group and budget. Apart
from the standard range of small economy and family hatchbacks,
there are 6 and 7 seater people-carriers, luxury Mercedes,
4 x 4s such as the Land Rover Freelander and convertibles
and automatics. Hertz also provide a number of options
including child seats, satellite navigation and hand-controls
for disabled customers. |
